About Atelier Preescolar preschool 520
Atelier Preescolar Spanish Immersion Boutique
Founded in 2012 by Susana Alverdi, who holds a Master’s in Education, Atelier Preescolar is a boutique preschool specializing in full Spanish immersion. The program follows a Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy, organizing children into age-specific 'workshops' named Naranjo, Manzano, Limonero, and Cerezo. Each space is intentionally designed with child-sized furniture, sensory light tables, and self-correcting materials to foster independence and a love of learning. Located in Southwest Austin, the school prioritizes social-emotional development and physical activity through its research-driven Outdoor Learning Environment (OLE!). Parents describe the community as a nurturing 'second home' where children achieve fluency through play, art, and daily exploration. With a 3-star Texas Rising Star rating, the program offers both full-time and part-time schedules, though families should prepare for an AISD-aligned calendar, which includes numerous holiday closures throughout the school year.
What Parents Say
5 reviews from parents
I am absolutely thrilled with the experience my child J has had at Atelier Preescolar! From the moment we enrolled, it was clear that the Atelier places a strong emphasis on fostering a creative and nurturing environment. The director and the teachers are incredibly dedicated, skilled, and truly care about each child’s development. They balance fun and learning so well, allowing children to explore, grow, and feel confident in their abilities. If you are looking for a preschool in Southwest Austin, don’t look more.
My daughter has been going to Atelier for about two years now and it has been a wonderful experience. The teachers are so kind and loving she absolutely loves going. They also get a lot of individualized attention which isn’t always common. She has learned a lot of Spanish and made a lot of great friends. She’s gotten many birthday invites and opportunities for play dates outside of school. I would highly recommend sending your child here.
Atelier has been a second home for my two daughters, and I am incredibly grateful for the love, care, and support they received from the director and teachers. It’s a place where children are truly nurtured, and I always felt at ease knowing my girls were in such a warm and caring environment. Pros: 1)The director has an amazing intuition for hiring kind and loving teachers. I never once doubted that my daughters were in the best hands. 2)Mrs. Susana’s open communication was something I really valued—she was always available and willing to connect whenever needed. Cons: 1)The main reason we left was due to the school’s closure schedule. Unfortunately, we no longer have the flexibility to accommodate the number of weeks the school is closed. We would have loved to stay otherwise! 2)Since Atelier is a smaller school, there are also some limitations when it comes to resources. Despite these factors, we had a wonderful experience at Atelier, and I highly recommend it to families looking for a loving and supportive preschool environment!
We are incredibly grateful for the exceptional education our two children received at Atelier Preescolar. Both of them thrived in the nurturing and stimulating environment, developing a strong foundation for future academic success. The dedicated teachers fostered a love of learning through engaging activities and a focus on both academic and social-emotional development. We highly recommend Atelier Preescolar to any family seeking an outstanding preschool experience for their children.
Both of our children now attend school here. It is not just daycare, it is school. Our 3 1/2 year old daughter started there at 18 months. They were excellent in working with us to plan her transition from being at home with a nanny to all day at school. Her Spanish is better than mine and when I really want her to do something, I say it her in Spanish. That is a testament to how well they run the school and manage the kids on a day to day basis. They focus on manners and being a good person as well as the academic part of their learning. I am excited to see how well our son, who is 18 months does there. It may not look fancy, but just like a Church, it the people, not the building that makes it special.
