About Child Development Center at Congregation Beth Israel

Reggio Emilia Learning at Temple Beth Israel

Established in 1989, the Child Development Center at Temple Beth Israel (cdc@cbi) is a Reggio Emilia-inspired community centered on the "image of the child" as capable and inquisitive. The curriculum is emergent, co-constructed by educators and students based on developmental observations and student interests. As one of the few NAEYC-accredited facilities in Austin, the center maintains rigorous standards for safety and pedagogy while fostering a nurturing "place of wonder and joy." The facility features twelve light-filled classrooms and extensive outdoor green spaces designed for nature-based learning. While deeply rooted in Jewish traditions and weekly Shabbat celebrations, the program is proudly interfaith and inclusive of all backgrounds. Daily rhythms are enriched with art, music, yoga, and Hebrew, supported by a staff dedicated to social-emotional growth and collaborative inquiry.
