About Life Time

Life Time Kids Academy Austin South

Life Time Austin South offers a movement-centric environment through its Kids Academy and seasonal camps. The program utilizes premium athletic facilities, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a rock climbing wall, and dedicated gymnasiums. It is designed for active children who thrive in settings that prioritize physical fitness alongside hands-on learning in the on-site STEAM lab. While the facility provides an athletic country club experience, the focus is on building healthy habits and social skills through guided play. The program offers daily drop-in options for members and full-day camps during school breaks. Parents should note that the program often utilizes a seasonal staff of energetic young adults and typically requires a junior membership for enrollment. Healthy snacks are provided to keep children fueled throughout their active day.

My experience at Lifetime South Austin has been extremely good. The DPT Staff is so communicative and very educated on mobility and recover. I worked with Malia on knee and hip mobility and was very impressed with her skills and knowledge on improving mobility in my joints. I love to come to LT South Austin to train in basketball. I appreciate the fact that you guys have installed the new basketball court. It's literally so top tier and high quality. Hopefully the Lifetimes' in San Antonio and surrounding areas can get their basketball courts revitalized soon as they extremely run down with old wood and numerous dead spots which is very unsafe for the players. Thanks Lifetime South Austin for setting the standard in fitness!

I had a very disappointing experience with this fitness center due to a complete lack of transparency and poor communication. I was charged for children’s swimming lessons that my daughter never attended. We were invited to schedule what was presented as a trial class. When I went in person to schedule it, I was told I needed to sign a waiver for my daughter because she is a minor. I signed it believing it was only a liability waiver for a trial lesson. My daughter did not enjoy the class, so we never returned. Months later, I discovered I had been charged a total of $500 for classes my daughter never took. I repeatedly tried to contact the staff throughout the year via email and phone to understand what was happening, but no one ever responded. When I finally managed to speak to someone this year, I was told that the document I signed had enrolled my daughter in ongoing classes, and for that reason they would only return part of the money — $300 as credit, not a refund. This is unacceptable, especially considering my daughter never attended a single class and no one ever contacted me to ask why she was not showing up. I genuinely believed we were signing up for a trial class, not a full enrollment. Being charged for a service that was never used, combined with months of unanswered communication, made me feel taken advantage of and poorly treated as a customer. I would strongly advise other parents to be extremely cautious and to carefully read every document before signing anything here.

Life Time’s South Austin location feels meaningfully under-invested relative to other clubs at the same membership tier, while still carrying matching full-price expectations. To be clear, this is not a criticism of the instructors, staff, or member community. The classes are strong and the people are a big reason many members stay. The issue is how the product is maintained and evolved. Compared with other Life Time locations in major markets, South Austin lags in maintenance consistency, amenities, and enhanced offerings. The result is an experience that feels managed for stability and retention rather than ongoing improvement or parity with similarly priced clubs elsewhere. That approach may make business sense internally, but from a member perspective it creates a large disconnect. Comparable pricing and membership tier implies a comparable level of investment and attention. If clubs within the same tier are intended to offer materially different experiences, that distinction should be reflected more transparently and reflected by pricing. As it stands, South Austin delivers a solid community experience, but not a fully realized premium one. For a brand rooted in the Twin Cities and known for “Minnesota nice,” this level of uneven treatment at a premium price point is disappointing. Canceling and heading to Kollective instead.

This particular location operates at a completely different level than any other Lifetime I've ever visited! The GM's come and go like an assembly line. Sometimes it's maintained- sometimes NOT! Dust bunnies , equipment routinely inadequate for the prescribed workout & unmaintained, locker rooms SOMETIMES secured- sometimes NOT. * a rash of thefts recently leading to signs being posted! ...Mold in the hot tubs- when they work. Fees that GO UP routinely- to fund other locations that don't have the membership #s. Sometimes there's recovery devices that work - sometimes NOT and many times when they break, they are never replaced.... And don't even think about the Pickleball courts as an amenity you'll have access to! The staff use it as their personal recreational facilities! Most LT locations have super welcoming staff that like to make you feel like a valued member- not this one! The staff run it like you are lucky to play there. They make you pay $40 to have an assessment of your play and if you don't 'pay to play' they refuse to let you play up. Even if your DUPR is close to the play level & there's available spots, they force you to play below. They don't encourage ANY type of advancement in personal performance UNLESS they are charging you for it. Staff routinely play for HOURS at a time on courts that should be reserved for by members. Other LT locations will conduct leagues that are $60 a team but this location charges $99 PER PERSON!. There are only 3 indoor courts and when the staff is running it like their own private courts and for their own personal benefit, the members naturally feel slighted. The cafe is inadequately sized and far less accommodating than most others. They SERIOUSLY need to build another gym like some in Georgia, Tennessee and Arizona- bigger and better equipped to handle the volume that Austin generates! It's a shame that this region of Texas is SO horribly managed & inadequately staffed... Lifetime Corp could care less what happens at this gym because it makes SO much $$$. If you are looking for a high end gym experience here, good luck! You are a # and $$$.

Web Report

Aggregated insights from public records & parent discussions

Safety Record

No safety violations were found in Texas state licensing records as the facility operates as an exempt 'drop-in' childcare center. Local reports indicate a significant police incident in May 2023 involving armed officers clearing the facility due to a suspected armed individual, though it was not directly related to the child center. One parent review specifically noted a lack of immediate staff response when a child sustained a minor injury in the play area.

Parent Reputation

The reputation of the South Austin location is mixed, with many parents praising the high-end facilities and the convenience of the Kids Academy. However, common criticisms include high staff turnover and a perception that the care is 'glorified babysitting' provided by young, inexperienced employees. Some reviews mention that scheduled classes are frequently canceled or lack structure compared to traditional childcare options.

Staff Insights

Employee reviews for this location describe a high-stress 'corporate' environment with low pay and management issues. Former staff members, including summer camp counselors, have reported poor communication and a social dynamic described as cliquey. High turnover is explicitly mentioned as a concern by both employees and observing parents.
