About Life Time
Active Fitness Camps at Life Time
Located in Austin North, Life Time Fitness Camps provide an energetic environment where school-age children move beyond traditional childcare. Under the direction of Brittany Tarbutton, the program utilizes the club's high-end facilities, including indoor and outdoor pools, a full-sized gymnasium, and dedicated kids' spaces. The curriculum focuses on healthy habits, social connection, and skill-building through structured physical activities and group play. The space is designed as an extension of an upscale athletic facility, offering children a dynamic place to spend their out-of-school time. While parents utilize the broader club amenities, children engage in activity-based programs that include STEM projects, arts and crafts, and sports. This facility is a convenient choice for families seeking a high-energy environment with year-round programming and seasonal camp options.
What Parents Say

I’ve been going to this gym for over a year now. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcomed. There’s a lot of space and plenty of cardio equipment. Where it’s lacking is the weight room. The equipment is very out dated. In comparison to other Lifetime gyms the whole place could use an update. It’s very over populated as well. The co ed sauna could have over 20 people in there at one given time. It’s great they have a sauna , but it’s extremely dirty as you can tell the windows are not washed daily as the same sweat prints have been on there for weeks. All in all, it has potential but could use some attention.
I remember coming here with a day pass my buddy sent in through the app. I did not know he had to be present. I understood I couldn’t get in without him, so I texted my friend to see if he could make it. I was there waiting for about 30 min. Every 5 min the people at the front kept saying are you buying the day pass. I said I’m waiting to see if my friend would come. Eventually I asked someone else to use their day pass and I got in, but their customer service was atrocious. I could have been interested, maybe I want to check out the facility without paying 50$? Lifetime overall has good family packages, so I was considering. The problem is the people at the front. Two white guys with mustaches that genuinely turned me off. Not here to denigrate the franchise, but message to management “get new male receptionists” don’t give two 19 year olds suits and think they fit the mold. Teach them how to treat potential customers. Easily a 1 star experience.
Lifetime is an amazing fitness center. Over the years, they’ve invested, upgraded and maintained this location quite well. In general, the facilities are clean. During prime time, it can get a bit messy (towels strewn about in the locker room, weights all over the place, and water from showers tracked all over the locker room), but it’s generally cleaned up within a few hours. There are new lockers, which finally work great and don’t lock you out randomly. The equipment is very well maintained, with broken equipment being fixed pretty quickly. My one beef with maintenance is that they need to lubricate equipment (ez bar attachments, hip thrust machine, etc) to avoid terrible squealing and screeching. Aside from that, there’s plenty of equipment and space for the number of members at this location. Prime time can get busy, but it’s not terrible. The pool areas are hit or miss. They do their best to maintain the water quality but children are pooping in the water, closing the pool for the day. The outside pool is not cleaned during off season, despite the warmer weather. The dry sauna is the biggest problem at this gym. In other LT locations, there are dedicated saunas for each gender. Here, it’s coed, and it’s not large enough for all who want to use it. Standing room only during busy times. The cedar planks also need to be replaced. The cafe is great, food is always fresh, and the people working the line are always super happy and friendly. And lastly, my biggest complaint is that this gym is overrun with screaming obnoxious children thanks to their daycare and day-camp offerings. Screaming in the cafe, screaming in the locker rooms, screaming in the adult shower area, screaming in the pool area. Pooping in the pools! Obnoxious gaggles of kids everywhere yelling and screaming constantly while the staff monitoring does nothing. It totally kills the vibe of a “country club” style upscale gym. Nothing more relaxing than getting a massage while a child is screaming at the top of their lungs in the adjacent pool area. They really should eliminate the entire daycare in this gym and increase the rates. I’d happily pay double for an 18+ only gym.
Great space and also a nice spot to get some work done. The space is clean, comfortable, and has a really good vibe. I especially have to mention Miss Mai, she truly makes the place feel like home. Her warm smile when you walk in makes a big difference and sets the tone for a great workout. Inga, and Jessica are fantastic trainers as well professional, motivating, and always supportive.
Pretty nice facility that does get busy at normal rush hour times but not too overcrowded. I’ve seen the more modern Lifetime locations which are nice but this one has a certain charm to it and the staff is friendly. The amount of stuff to do here is worth the higher price tag as it’s much more than a standard gym. I wish they would add an outdoor jacuzzi and men/women only dry saunas in the locker rooms. Also, the guest process is super simple and all done through the app. Guests can complete everything before they get there- the instructions are super clear.
Web Report
Aggregated insights from public records & parent discussions
Safety Record
No safety incidents, news reports, or state-level licensing violations were found for this specific location. The facility is registered as an 'EXEMPT' Health Spa in Texas, which typically applies to drop-in childcare services provided while parents are on-site. Corporate-wide, Life Time Fitness settled a class-action lawsuit in 2018 regarding unpaid wages for trainers and instructors, though no specific safety-related legal issues were found for the Austin North branch.
Parent Reputation
Parent reviews for the Austin North location are mixed; while some parents praise specific staff members for being caring and responsive, others criticize the Kids Academy as being 'truly awful' and 'very crowded.' A notable complaint from 2024 alleges discrimination against children with autism and claims staff failed to follow requests to notify parents when children became distressed. Reputation is generally tied to high membership costs (~$179–$229/month), which parents feel should include more consistent and professional child care.
Staff Insights
Employee reviews describe a high-turnover environment with a workforce largely composed of high-school and college-aged students. While some local managers are praised by name in parent forums, staff members frequently report low pay ($14–$17 per hour), poor management support, and a 'toxic' or 'condescending' corporate culture. Management at the Kids Club has specifically been criticized by some parents for a lack of professional training in handling children with special needs.
