What Parents Say
5 reviews from parents
John Wesley has been our church home for over 30 years. We have “done life” there. My church family welcomed us with open arms, helped us raise our children, walked with us through challenges, celebrations and loss. I can’t think of a better place to put down roots and grow! Join us!! We’ll save you a seat!
Just repaired their elevator. This place is beautiful and the staff are SUPER friendly and kind. They were also very excited about the elevator getting fixed ☺️
As it pertains to the school, I wanted to love John Wesley, but as with most businesses, JW has some highlights and some huge disappoints. Of the 4 teachers our family has experienced, they have all ranged from good to excellent! Other pros- there's lots of engaging, fun activities for the kids and good communication about events that are happening. I also like that the school is clean and well maintained, and the curriculum seems on par with other schools. My biggest issue however is that we don't feel the welcoming spirit that I had hoped for (other than from the kids' teachers and other families.) Realistically 10-15% of the time someone greets us with a "good morning" or a smile when we walk in, despite there being 3-5 ladies at the front on any given day. Most days we are completely ignored. I'm not even sure they know our names. Sadly that Texas charm is completely lost on these ladies! I was hoping to see the leadership from them that my daughters could emulate and learn from but unfortunately they are not warm people. Other schools we've been to, the staff lights up and takes interest in the kids to the point where my kids run up to hug them when they see them; not here though. Their internal barometer knows it's not that sort of kind and loving environment. This leads me to my other criticism: where is God's abundant love here? I don't see my kids being taught much about the Bible at all. No dittos with Jesus or Bible stories. The majority of the Christmas program is "Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer" type of material, where Santa is given more praise than Jesus (is this a Christian school or not?) Very secular and almost like the school is scared to spread the good news that God wants all to know! Personally I want my girls to know God first and foremost and be strong in their faith, which is what I teach them. But if you are looking for that message being spread and taught at JW, look elsewhere. Basically the attitude from the admin support is poor and the Godly leadership is absent.
While researching online for a new church to visit yesterday, I noticed that John Wesley had a two (2) hour GriefShare therapy meeting where people come to discuss the hardships of losing a loved one. Since my sister and I both lost our mother nearly one year ago to the day, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for us to take advantage of. My sister and I arrived at the church unannounced and uninvited, but we were still welcomed with open arms, love and care. Believe it or not, this doesn't happen at churches as often as you might think... Sad, I know, but true. The experience we shared together with our new friends at the meeting was a moving rollercoaster full of ups and downs. My sister let out A LOT of tears, whereas I was able to talk about many things that I've been wanting to say for awhile now. My sister even went downstairs after the meeting concluded to speak directly to, and privately with, someone who specializes in this type of situation. I, on the other hand, went outside the church to reflect on the meeting and enjoy this beautiful Autumn weather we are so fortunate to have this time of year. We will definitely be back to this church for more meetings, and I personally can't wait to attend a Sunday church service with my sister in tow. God bless all those grieving souls we met yesterday at the church. I know the pain you all are experiencing at the moment, and if you ever need some help around the house, someone to go to dinner with, or even just someone to talk to, then please reach out as my sister and I are more than happy to be there for you. No matter what you are going through, always remember that our time on this earth (in the material world) is short-lived. However, an eternity of peace, love and joy, exists for us in the afterlife for everyone who follows the teachings of our Lord and Savior. One love. God bless and good journey!
I love both contemporary and traditional services. I have loved having both in one church! The 9 am contemporary service is perfect for me with kids that don’t always sit still and quiet, but I love getting to take them to the traditional 11:15 am occasionally as well so they appreciate the choir and organ and hymns. One church can have it both ways. Hallelujah!
