About Little Sunshine's Playhouse of Southlake, TX
Little Sunshine's Playhouse of Southlake
Little Sunshine’s Playhouse of Southlake provides a nurturing environment for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years. Utilizing a proprietary, Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum, the program focuses on child-led exploration and whole-child development across themed classrooms. The facility is designed to feel like a home away from home, featuring a secure porte-cochere for "Red Carpet" car-side drop-offs, private child-sized bathrooms, and extensive outdoor play areas with custom playhouse structures. Parents stay connected throughout the day via the LuvNotes® mobile app, which delivers personalized photos, videos, and daily reports on milestones and meals. The program's all-inclusive approach covers breakfast, lunch, and snacks prepared by an onsite chef, as well as infant formula, baby food, and wipes. Under the leadership of Director Tia Jones, the school emphasizes a collaborative community between educators and families to foster a lifelong love of learning.
What Parents Say

All in all, this school started as a dream and turned into a nightmare. I have waited so long to write this review and am now so happy to be able to do so. I really wish I could give zero, or even negative stars, but I have to give one. Simply put, don’t let these people near your children. My sons attended LSP and my older son was horribly mistreated. A teacher- who had been complained about by multiple other teachers- smothered him to keep him from crying at nap time. He has said it happened more than once. After becoming aware of this and bringing it to the attention of the Assistant Director, Tia (NOW THE DIRECTOR!), we found out that they were already aware of it and had failed to inform us. It turned out multiple teachers had complained to Tia and the then-director, Kelley, about this woman’s behavior with students. We also found out from staff that Kathy, the “head teacher” was telling the then-two year olds, that monsters and skeletons were going to come and get them and the Big Bad Wolf was going to blow their houses down if they were bad. This definitely explained some nightmares our son (and others, we were told) suffered from. Staff turnover was so bad that at times I had no idea who was with my children. I picked them up one day and a girl I’d never seen before said “which one is ___?” It turned out he wasn’t even in the classroom. Somehow he’d ended up in another room and she had no clue because she didn’t even know who he was. Their DFPS records show toddlers left outside alone, teachers dropping children onto cots, and failure to report incidents, among other issues. Do your homework and read their reports. When we first found LSP, we loved it. We were so happy to have our son, and then sons, there. The old director, Chandler, was incredible. Unfortunately, after Chandler left the school fell apart. Corporate leadership didn’t seem to care at all and has not once inquired about our son or our family. When we were able to secure new care and left, Kerri, their area director, tried to intimidate us into staying by telling us she had heard terrible things about the school we were going to (I still don’t know how she found out where we were going, because I didn’t tell her). UPDATE: I’ve now received an email from Abby, the COO of Little Sunshine’s, containing threats if I don’t take down this review. Her primary threat is to respond to the review, disparaging me and my family, and I’m happy to address it. The fact that LSP only cares now that this review is affecting business, says everything. Yes, we filed a lawsuit and ultimately made the decision to file a notice of non-suit, which does not mean we dropped the suit. It means that our son can sue personally at a later date if he feels it is the right decision for him, and it also means that if further trauma from these incidents is uncovered, the suit can be reopened. The reason for that is that it was for our son’s good. Little Sunshine’s offered us a small settlement that came along with a non-disclosure agreement stating I would remove everything negative I’ve ever posted or reviewed about them, and that I would not tell anyone else about this ever. To challenge that settlement would have required going to trial, which would have been an extremely traumatic experience for my son. Our decision was that Little Sunshine’s had already hurt him enough, and we wouldn’t let them put him through months or even years of analysis, interviews, and attacks on his family. Absolutely no amount of money would have been enough for us to put our child through that. I also felt that it was not worth other parents not being able to learn about what they did to us. Parents deserve to know what happenswhere they leave their children. The incident with my son was investigated by DFPS and the then-Director’s lack of response to it is noted on the Texas DFPS site. I will also note that I didn’t post this review until after we filed the notice of non-suit because it made me so angry that they demanded I hide this from other parents.
We have been part of the LSP family for a little over a year and it’s been a great experience. The staff treats every child with some much love. My girls have learned so much and we can’t say enough good things. We love our school!
Little Sunshine Playhouse has been an incredible experience for our family. My granddaughter has been attending for six months, and we couldn’t be happier with the care, education, and environment provided. The staff is exceptional, with a strong sense of tenure and a true “all-hands-on-deck” approach. Everyone is actively involved at all levels, making it feel like an extended family. We have complete trust in the team, knowing they genuinely care about the children and their development. The curriculum is advanced and engaging, setting a strong foundation for early learning. My granddaughter can count to ten in both English and Spanish, recite her ABCs in both languages, communicate through sign language, and is making great progress with potty training. The support and encouragement from the staff have made this milestone much smoother for our family. I am proud to call Little Sunshine Playhouse part of our family, and I highly recommend them for your childcare needs. If you are looking for a nurturing, educational, and trustworthy daycare, this is the place to be!
My daughter spent multiple years at Little sunshine Playhouse. The staff was amazing and made my daughter feel so loved. Transitioning into an out of preschool was a breeze. They did such a good job supporting her and helping her with her development as a little one and Going into kindergarten. I could not recommend this place enough! Tia over sees the whole program and I consider her family! She will always have a special place in my heart and my little one’s as well
We've had our daughter at Little Sunshine Playhouse since she was 6 months old. Ms. Tia made our initial experience warm and welcoming. Ms. Pam and Ms. Glenda, in the infant room, were very helpful with communicating our child's needs during the day and always sent photos to make our days better. In the older classroom, Ms. Carissa and Ms. Nicole are very attentive to our daughters needs, even in a bigger classroom she is thriving at Little Sunshine. We could not ask for a safe and FUN daycare for our daughter. Thanks!

Safety Record
In August 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor ordered this location to reinstate an employee and pay over $43,000 in damages after they were retaliated against for reporting food safety concerns to state officials in 2023. The reported concerns included an unsanitary kitchen and food stored at unsafe temperatures. Outside of this incident, the facility is a licensed child care center (Permit #1594117) with a capacity of 160 children.
Parent Reputation
The facility maintains a strong local reputation, being named 'Winner' for child care in Southlake Style magazine's 'Best of' awards for 2024 and 2025. Parent reviews on platforms like Listen360 and Google are generally positive, frequently praising specific teachers and the administrative team. However, Better Business Bureau records include complaints regarding the non-refundable nature of their $350 waitlist fee and re-enrollment charges.
Staff Insights
Employee reviews are mixed; some staff describe a supportive, family-like environment and compassionate management, while others have reported a lack of support for behavioral issues. The 2024 OSHA judgment specifically addressed a case of management retaliation against an employee who acted as a whistleblower regarding facility conditions.
