About Wonderwell

Reggio-Inspired Learning in Designer Campus

WonderWell is an Austin private school dedicated to an emergent curriculum guided by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. The program serves children from toddlerhood through kindergarten, focusing on the "Hundred Languages of Children" where learning is expressed through play, art, and investigation. Teachers act as co-constructors of knowledge, working alongside students to design hands-on experiences that provoke curiosity and meaningful research. The campus features an innovative, minimalist design with expansive windows and decluttered spaces intended to foster calm and focus. Specialized areas include an Atelier for creative work, a library known as "The Well," and a private, protected courtyard for outdoor play. Families are an integral part of the learning community, participating in an admissions process that includes parent tours and student shadow visits to ensure a harmonious fit for the child's development and the school's culture.

There could never be words to describe how incredible Wonderwell is. Before having children, I used to think people who cared so much about preschool were silly. But now having two young kids, and knowing the importance of education at this important developmental stage, I know that there really is so much young children need to thrive. Wonderwell is not only the best preschool in Austin, but in the country in my opinion. My son went there for three years and my daughter for a year before we had to move out of state. Leaving this school was the hardest part. My son started when he was 2, he could barely speak and was SO shy. When we left, he was so confident, a true leader, and LOVED school. The teachers, the staff, the other families, are all above and beyond. I couldn’t love or recommend Wonderwell more!

Wonderwell is an incredible place. My son has gone to Wonderwell for 2 years and he LOVES it. Every aspect of this school is consciously crafted towards the little ones, from the facility itself to the ways in which staff interact with the children. It is a truly special place.

Wonderwell delivered, by far, the best early education experience for our kids that we could have ever hoped for. Wonderwell is the first community we got involved with after arriving in Austin a few years ago and it has had such a huge impact on our and our childrens' lives. From the facilities, to the curriculum, to every single person on staff, Wonderwell creates an environment where your child will be excited to learn and will feel cared for and loved. And now that we've had one child leave and start kindergarten, we've seen just how well prepared kids are when they leave Wonderwell to embark on their learning journeys.

It was evident to my husband and I the moment we walked into WonderWell that this was an excellent environment for our 4 year old son. Our son is thriving daily and they fostered his abilities and encouraged his growth through exploration, wonder and play. What I love most, the relationships: seeing the students really care for each other, being kind to one another. As a mom, that is all you want: For your child to remain a curious learner and to be kind. Parents, children and staff are all truly treated with dignity, respect and kindness which will reflect how my son will treat people as he grows. I love that parents have various opportunities to be involved and build our community of young learners. The staff loves teaching at this school. It shows. Great ambiance and energy. We are so fortunate to have found them. My son’s occupational therapist visits the school and commented to me that she has never seen a school like this, so many engaged happy kids. I love the founder, not only is she an absolute sweetheart and runs an exceptional school, she is truly understanding and patient with all of the parents and children, she's the rock of the school. Bonus: she is totally into design (as am I) so everything is beautifully presented and carefully thought out. From the architecture of the building, the interior design, color scheme, lighting, the landscape and play-area design, every single detail of the school is beyond inspiring. It gives me chills thinking of how they poured their souls building this school. My son’s teachers are the kindest, calming and loving teachers ever. The founder and her administrative team vets all staff and I am impressed by their keen skills in screening teachers that are passionate, kind and truly want to inspire curious learners. The teachers were handpicked out of many to offer up the best! The teachers are also very patient and understanding of the developmental stages of the children and are able to use individual approach for each child. The staff are continuously studying which enhances their love for learning as they pass this along to our young learners. The low class sizes really allow the teachers to get to know each child and his/her interests and abilities. The quality of the art material and instruction is extremely rare to find in a preschool setting. Their method - Reggio Emilia is age appropriate and inspiring, probably the only true Reggio preschool in all of Austin. This preschool is all about letting children grow and become comfortable in their own skin while instilling a lifetime of curious learning. WE LOVE WONDERWELL!

Web Report

Aggregated insights from public records & parent discussions

Safety Record

Wonderwell (Operation #1666027) is a licensed childcare center with an inspection history through Texas Health and Human Services that includes 69 total deficiencies over a 60-month period ending in early 2024. Recent inspections in April 2024 cited at least one 'Medium-High' and one 'Medium' risk deficiency. No major news reports of legal incidents or permanent closures were found, though a critical website claims internal management issues.

Parent Reputation

The school's reputation is polarized, with official marketing and educational directories praising its Reggio-inspired curriculum and 'Best of the Best' nominations in 2018 and 2019. However, parent discussions on Reddit emphasize its high cost, exceeding $29,000 annually with fees, and a dedicated critical website alleges 'unhinged' ownership and 'toxic' communication with families. Reviews on major platforms like Google and Yelp are limited, making direct consensus difficult to verify beyond these extremes.

Staff Insights

Employee feedback indicates significant leadership concerns, with a critical source quoting a Glassdoor review that describes the environment as 'toxic, illogical, and catty.' Texas state records show a consistent pattern of staff turnover from 2021 to 2024, and multiple sources mention a 'bullying' culture under the current management team.
