About The Burrow School
Reggio-Inspired Home School in South Austin
The Burrow School is a community-driven preschool housed in a charming South Austin bungalow. The program is led by Director Kylie Stewart, who brings 12 years of experience in early childhood education. Drawing inspiration from Reggio Emilia, RIE, and Te Whāriki philosophies, the environment is intentionally designed to be calm, bright, and uncluttered, treating the physical space as a 'third teacher' that invites curiosity and deep reflection. Children spend significant time in the outdoor classroom and backyard, engaging in discovery across all weather conditions. The curriculum is child-led and documented through photos and written observations, ensuring families stay connected to their child's daily discoveries. With a small capacity of only 19 children, the school maintains an intimate, family-like atmosphere where emotional development and respectful communication are prioritized alongside artistic and collaborative projects.
What Parents Say
5 reviews from parents
We absolutely loved the time that we sent our little one to The Burrow. Amberly and Sadie created such a wonderful, inviting, fun, and accepting atmosphere that continues under the direction of Kylie with help from all of the amazing educators Dae, Jimmy, Jordan, Amsza, Sarah, and Bobby!! If your little one needs a fun, welcoming, educational, but fun and adventerous environment to grow in, I couldn't recommend The Burrow enough! Miss you all!
Hoo-dang! This school is the bee’s knees! Small student to teacher ratios, mixed age groups, outdoor free-play, small group projects, Reggio-inspired, RIE focus, social-emotional learning out the whazzoo for students, parents, and educators alike…community-centered…not only are all kids accepted for their unique ways of expressing, but they are valued and encouraged to grow into their own unique gifts safely. I know my children are safe and supported every moment of the day. I know I can get accurate, nonjudgmental feedback and support for when my kids struggle in some area of their development or social interactions. I know that the educators have valuable insights and adapt their care and education based on the family and child’s needs. I wish more schools were able to function so holistically. This school definitely models that approach!
The Burrow School is such a special place! Our two year old has been there for 6 months now, and he literally walked in on the first day totally at ease. The teachers are so loving, plus we get constant photos and updates about his day. We are so happy to have this community for our son!
The Burrow School is truly a one of a kind place, and we feel endlessly grateful to have been part of this community. Our daughter, now almost 3.5 years old, has been attending since she was 18 months. The growth we’ve witnessed in her has been nothing short of incredible. We feel completely at ease every time we drop her off, knowing she is in the most caring, attentive hands. The teachers are warm, deeply empathetic, and genuinely committed to helping children express their feelings in healthy, empowering ways. It’s a beautiful environment for young minds to grow! We love the care and enriching experience that is brought to the students everyday. The Burrow School is everything we hoped for and more.
We love being a part of the Burrow School community. The teachers are empathetic, kind and truly love being there. They have low turnover (rare these days!) and I always feel confident in knowing how loved our child is when I drop him off every day. The compassion and joy is contagious! We love how understanding they are of what it’s like to be raising small humans and what a village it takes. Can’t recommend this school enough!
