About Anderson Mill Ymca Of Central Texas

Anderson Mill YMCA After School

Anderson Mill YMCA of Central Texas provides a licensed school-age program that emphasizes the core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith. Designed for students in local elementary schools, the program offers a structured environment for children to engage in organized sports, games, and special interest activities such as art projects, journalism, and team-building exercises. The program is specifically tailored to foster social and emotional growth through cooperative play and leadership development. Staff members are trained in CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention to maintain a secure environment for all participants. While the program focuses on keeping children active and engaged until 6:30 PM, it also provides daily afternoon snacks. Full-day 'All Day Out' programs are available on select school holidays, featuring science activities and field-day style games to keep students busy during school breaks.

I've been a member for over a year and the gym was ok, nothing special, but the classes were really not worth the money. We signed up for a baking class and it was just the kids making dipped pretzels. No cooking or baking at all... Definitely not worth the money paid just for a cheap snack they can do in 5 minutes at home. We also did an art class which was very lackluster. Finally, my daughter did volleyball for two seasons and they would put younger kids (2nd grade) in with older kids (4th grade). Lastly, I'm now wanting to cancel and can't do this online or over the phone. I have to go in to sign some papers which is annoying.

Staff is rude/unwelcoming most of the time. When we had kids going to their paid clubs the teachers were often late by 10-15 minutes. The gymnastics teachers were an exception, they truly did seem to care and I appreciate them. Facility was decently clean, but the pool section often had something closed because it was broken. Decided to cancel, but can't cancel online or over the phone for the Twin Lakes YMCA. This is just a money grab ploy, so that they can get more money out of the members that need to cancel. The reason given was because "That's just what we were told, it keeps people from calling in to cancel memberships that don't belong to them." This would be a non-issue with verification techniques or online cancellation options-- I'm not buying it, I work in a billing department. When asked what they do if someone has moved she laughed and said "guess they should have canceled before they moved". Keep in mind that the other YMCAs allow you to cancel online, this one just has it turned off.

If you plan to join this YMCA for swimming, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME and MONEY. Hot tub, warm pool and sauna are always broken and closed. And don't even think about the pool, all lanes are closed for back to back classes, that leaving you 5-10 mins to swim. And if you miss that 10 mins windows, the swim instructor will slam the "Class in progress" to your face and kick you out. Trust us, we have been members for a while to see it all.

Wonderful family friendly gym. Our family has been apart of the sports program for many years, and more recently joined the gym. Our experience in the gym/ workout room has been less than pleasant. I often bring my teenagers with me to exercise, with the thought that it will create a lifelong habit of self-care. However, this has not been the experience. Mr. Pleasant the trainer, consistently approaches them with unsolicited advice that is always negative. This is creating an environment that feels full of judgement, when it should be encouraging. My hope is that the YMCA will see this review ( and the others like it) and provide Mr. Pleasant with Customer Service coaching.

Safety Record

In January 2025, a lawsuit was filed against the YMCA of Central Texas (the parent organization) alleging physical abuse, including choking and neck-grabbing of toddlers, at a Pflugerville-area branch in early 2024. While this branch is licensed by Texas Health and Human Services, a specific negative review for the Cedar Park location mentions an undisclosed incident involving a 5-year-old in the After School Care program. The organization has faced past citations for inadequate supervision ratios and failure to report incidents to authorities.

Parent Reputation

The facility holds a 3.2-star rating on Yelp with approximately 92 reviews. Parents value the 'ChildWatch' service and the variety of athletic programs, though reviews of the childcare specifically are mixed. Common complaints include staff appearing overwhelmed, strict waitlists for drop-in care, and concerns regarding the structure of the supervision for younger children.

Staff Insights

Employee reviews indicate that ChildWatch Lead roles pay between $15 and $17 per hour. Staff training is verified to include CPR/First Aid, positive discipline, and Child Abuse Prevention. However, some parent reports describe staff as overwhelmed or barky, suggesting potential issues with management and student-to-teacher ratios during peak hours.
