What Parents Say
5 reviews from parents
I lived here for a year or 2 with my mother and my brother my aunt also lived here with her 2 kids and we also lived in a different safe home ig u can say in Austin, the people are really rude here my mom had a seizure, and we had to stay with my aunt n her room before going to go see her in the hospital, and they said that was against the rules and we had sign a paper to be able to stay with my aunt a couple days before. Like we knew she was gonna have a seizure. Just horrible if you are looking for a place to stay this definitely isn’t the place. The people that work here are very rude and not helpful what so ever. God bless everyone and their families tho that had to go through stuff like that.
Considering the amount of 1 star reviews, I will not be donating the 4 bags of clothes I have to this place and I am so very glad I didnt end up here when my sister kicked me out at 18 years old. These places should really work on their behavior internally with their staff, considering the complaints and lack of acting like an adult spoken about in other reviews. Yall cant even be bothered to respond to the reviews either… how sad… Austin really is abusive to the houseless and needy.
If it was an option to give No stars I would definitely do that. I had the worse experience at this place specifically with the Daycare and it’s director Brittany.. Every other day my child was having to be picked up for some BS reason, they would say my baby had a high temp, I get back and check it no high temp at all, they were just being lazy not wanting to do there job. Also Ms Brittany and her lil daycare crew would constantly call me saying she having a blow out diaper and needed to be picked up, again when I got her and change the next diaper no blow out and I would even alert the front desk and the alleged caseworker at the time and they wouldn’t do nothing about it but just say have you talk to her about it like Duhhhh i talk to her about and she would still say she couldn’t come back til the next day. I had to reschedule my orientation with a job 4 times due to this dam daycare and its director and sorry workers. The place is a wreck it was always nasty and dirty from the residents trashing the place and they didn’t do nothing about it when they should of been kicking people out from being dirty and not controlling they kids. They don’t help you with housing they just temporaily house you there til your 90 day exit date come up. The whole time I was there I seen no one get placed with housing this place is a complete joke. Bathrooms stay dirty all day until the lady come cleans them, once she clean them they stay clean for 15 mins then back to horror movie it goes, the place have a bad roach problem cause they allow resident to eat any and everywhere throughout the building. The only good thing I can say about this place is the AM shift staff (Sonny Crew) and the whole Kitchen staff were some of the best people I’ve ran across on a long time. I’ll forever be grateful for them just not that program. All these staff were helpful and made time and life there go by with ease. Super helpful and really cared more than the ones that suppose to be helping such as caseworkers, directors, daycare teachers . Throw them ^^ all away and keep the Am morning shift team cause that’s where you gone get the most help. I hope this place do get better for the sake of others but other than that don’t expect much when going there only to be house for 90 days
This shelter is dear to my heart. I went in with a plan and goals and my case manager Lydiana was a rockstar! I successfully completed the program in 2015 and graduated culinary school in 2016. Iove how the facility has expanded since me and my kids were there. It is the first place that I donate gently used items as well as refer women or women with children to get on their feet.
As I read the reviews I'm just like in awe because when I was going through the shelter I did not experienced any of this stuff I never seen any of this stuff happen and if it ever did for instance if they kick somebody out or something I believe there might have been more to the story because I don't think that's how it works. However everybody's experience with the salvation army may be different. I have to say for my experience being in a shelter with kids is a hard situation to be in as it is. But if it's the only choice you have then you need to be thankful that is there for you. I would never go into a shelter or any place expecting anyone there to bend over backwards for us and I will say staff there did that for us it was very polite very helpful never did I come across a rude employee. Okay well I'm lying now because I did have one person in the kitchen come at me a little sideways but ultimately he was just doing his job and not cutting corners so I was okay with it. I can't remember all the names I know there's Carla who's my number one girl that works there she's awesome she is amazing and she genuinely does care about people that are there and I can say the same for the women that are at the desk as well. All of them were very professional very resourceful and never came at me disrespectful in any kind of way. I love those ladies and Sonny and Grace as well and the kitchen staff is amazing. You got Roxanne in the morning she's ready Rock That's why they call her Roxanne..LOL.. pop and son Duo they're pretty cool and I hate to say it but there's another lady in the kitchen that works with Roxanne I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember her name but she knows who she is I know she lives somewhere here by me but I haven't had the time to go out and find her but she's very cut out for her job and very respectful lady and also Junior the son of the dad in the kitchen he takes a lot of pride in his cooking he loves to cook and he cooks very good food and my kids were always so excited to see him and they still ask about him every once in a while like as if I'm supposed to go and ask him to come out and hang out with these kids LOL... not happening... The boys are always saying I want to be big like Junior , Grandma you think I'm going to be big like him, and that's when I pretend to get distracted so I don't have to answer that because I don't want to lie to my kiddos... junior is a big boy... However so that's too bad that some of you guys had a bad experience with the salvation army but I believe in all honesty you had to have worked your way into a situation with them before it got to and uncomfortable for you. But you should also be thankful that it was available for you. Because you asked to be there they didn't come to you and ask you to move in you came to them at some point and you had to have been pretty desperate to do that so when they called you you should have seen it as a blessing and know that there's rules and regulations that come with places like this. Thank you to all the staff at salvation army who helped me and my kids I got the coolest case manager who I still talk to her occasionally and maybe one day I will have a friendship with staff there. That's always something to look forward to.
