About Hyde Park Weekday Preschool
Hyde Park Weekday Preschool at Speedway
Hyde Park Weekday Preschool has served Austin families since 1987, offering year-round care from 8 weeks through Pre-K. Located on a secure campus at Hyde Park Baptist Church, the program emphasizes a play-based curriculum designed to support social, emotional, and spiritual growth. The facility includes a dedicated playground and a fellowship hall for indoor physical activity. Enrollment is managed via a prioritized waitlist, with preference given to staff, church members, and current school families. Parents should note that uniforms are required for the 4K program and that lunch is provided for full-day 4K students. All staff undergo FBI background checks and maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications to ensure child safety.
What Parents Say
5 reviews from parents
I would highly recommend Hyde Park, child development center. Martha and her team care a lot about the children in their care. The staff are extremely kind, and take time to understand the needs of each child. They also choose their vendors carefully and hold them to the same standard they expect for their own team.
That Martha is a piece of work. I’m not sure how she hasn’t been reported yet. Would never bring my children back.
We have been at the CDC since my oldest daughter (now 7) was a baby. The teachers and staff are warm and loving and the education they provide is fantastic.
We love it here! I have three children in the hyde park schools and they love going to school everyday and the staff and parents are wonderful to interact with.
We have been very happy with Hyde Park Baptist CDC. The teachers are very loving and attentive, and all are very educated in child development. The teachers appropriately value play as a child's best method of learning and they provide the kind of warm environment that is essential to children's social and emotional development. While the tuition is not inexpensive, I have found that it is comparable to other nearby CDCs and I believe it is a bargain for the quality of care and support the children receive. As a side note, I see that someone who appears to be a neighbor of the school has written a review complaining about buses taking children on field trips. I believe that person has the CDC confused with the private elementary through middle school housed in the same building because the only field trips the CDC takes are walking field trips.

Safety Record
A 2007 lawsuit (Hyde Park Baptist Church v. Turner) resulted in a $163,562 jury award after a teacher at the Child Development Center pushed a toddler, causing a head injury and leading to a finding of negligent supervision. Recent Texas Health and Human Services records from April 2024 indicate two inspections that cited one 'Medium-High' risk deficiency and one 'Medium' risk deficiency. Staff members are required to undergo FBI fingerprinting and background checks, and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
Parent Reputation
The facility maintains a generally positive reputation for its curriculum, with a 4.32/5 rating on Niche, though recent reviews from 2024 express concerns regarding a 'toxic' administrative culture and poor teacher retention. Parents on community forums frequently mention long waitlists and high demand, with many praising the play-based, faith-centered approach while others criticize the rising costs and focus on fees. Overall sentiment is mixed between appreciation for the long-standing community presence and frustration with administrative policies.
Staff Insights
Employee feedback from recent Niche and local forum reviews suggests a challenging workplace environment with mentions of high teacher turnover and a 'toxic' administration. Teaching assistants are frequently recruited through local university channels, and official job postings highlight shifts such as 8:00 AM–12:30 PM and 2:30 PM–6:00 PM. While some alumni praise the dedication of individual teachers, recent critiques from former staff and parents point to a disconnect between management and frontline educators.
