About Spicewood Country School
Spicewood Country School and Camp
Established in 1980 by educators, Spicewood Country School operates on a 9-acre Hill Country campus near central Austin. The grounds feature grazing horses, 4,000 square feet of classroom space, and direct access to Bull Creek for fishing and nature walks. The environment is designed to feel like a friendly farm, providing children with a rustic setting for daily learning and physical activity. The preschool curriculum integrates Spanish and music alongside specialized programs like Zoo-phonics and Learning Without Tears. Classes are small and emphasize outdoor time and creative expression. Parents should note that the school maintains a traditional cash-or-check-only payment system and requires families to provide daily lunches and snacks for their children. Preschool serves children ages 2 to 5, while summer camp programs extend to age 10.5 years old.
What Parents Say
5 reviews from parents
Unless you medicate your kid, this place can't handle him or her. Pathetic.
WE LOVE THIS PLACE! We came to Spicewood after frustrations with my son's experience at a daycare chain. He has learned so much so quickly! The staff is so warm and clearly enjoys what they do! They work with the children and make learning both fun and productive. The animals on-site are definitely a bonus. My son can't wait to go everyday, a stark contrast from his last school.
We have sent our daughter here for summer camp 3 years in a row. It is a fun, safe camp with a ton of activities to keep her excited about attending. They swim, ride horses, zip line, fish, hike and feed the animals.
We love this school. We were so lucky to find them. From the small class sizes to the belief in recess, my son couldn't be happier. I couldnt believe how many preschools didn't make time for recess when we were looking for a school. Plus they let the kids be kids.
